I had finished porting "The Letter", but I need a few people to test it to see if it works properly, as I have no flash card to test it on myself.

post any bugs here, thanks!

It won't load up on VNDS 1.4.4. This is what it says:

[script] Script encoding is UTF-16 BE. Only UTF-8 is supported.

this should fix it. just replace the previous script folder with this one.

It loads up properly now. But it consistently crashes (Guru Meditation Error! data abort!) after the third line:

"I hate it when you open your diary and write: "It was so hot today that..."

The novel also crashes if you leave it alone at the menu. There's also some slight music distortion, too.

hmm...

it might be the music. I was unable to convert it to a lower sample frequency, so that might be it.

try converting the mp3s to a lower bitrate and lower the sample freq. to 22.050.

the VNDS sound converter won't do it if it's already an mp3...

Might I suggest using Goldwave?

I downloaded Audacity and it seems to be working...

might take a while to upload though, using dial-up and everything.

Yeah, the sound files are causing the game to crash. The novel appear to work pretty well after I removed them. Maybe using ACC files would work better?

I brought down the sample freq. to 22.050

if these don't work, I'll fix up the scripts for aac music

It works fine so far. I'll read through the novel this weekend...I'll post again if there are any other problems.

12 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-03 22:54 ID:pSPwYShF [Del]

It works fine for me (after converting the music to 22050), although in the variable.scr, there was a slight typo (you called for the music bgm\bgm_265.mp3). Apart from that, everything seems to be ok (of course, I could have missed a text typo somewhere, but no wrongly referenced things).

13 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-04 03:23 ID:Rkw4Jpfl [Del]

I encountered this error:

[script] Unable to open script file: script/horizon.scr

Then it goes back to the menu.

lol, looks like the filename has an extra "i". Rename the file (horizion.scr). -_-" It seems that in my sleepiness, I missed that. Maybe I should look through again when I get more sleep.

15 Name: Anonymous : 2009-04-04 20:44 ID:Rkw4Jpfl [Del]

Read through the rest of it without a hitch. I only noticed one typo. The word "text" appears where it shouldn't towards the end.

"It was time. text. "This is your Father's will."

Oh, and the Medias Res menu doesn't work. Just takes you back to the title.

OK, I've fixed everything posted here, but I not quite sure about the Medias Res fix...

If it doesn't work, I'll edit it out of the VN.

If it does, I'll post the final version tomorrow.

Thanks for the help :)

No prob...thanks for porting this.

Yeah, Media Res menu still doesn't work. You should probably take it out. Glad you included the Postscript and credits; I was kinda bummed that Weaboo didn't include them in his solid True Remembrance port.

I didn't really look back over for typos, but I got the Media Res to work (you put "if choice == X" when it should have been "if selected == X") and added a little to it for a better feel to it (when a song is selected, it shows the options again while playing the song and if the same option is selected, the song doesn't stop, for those people who select it a second time on accident like me). The new label commands are helpful =).
Here's the fixed script (or fixed as far as working vs nonworking goes).

(^-^) thanks for the fix!

Lol, it just so happens that while testing it today (with more sleep behind my back) I found a screw up in my own added stuff. As it turns out, if you selected a song on either screen, and then go to the other page and select a song in the exact same place, the song doesn't change. It isn't really dire (1/16th chance someone might actually do that) but if you people want it, I tweaked it to work entirely right (since even 1/16ths of a problem must be squashed out).
Its only one file, so just dump it in the script folder.

That's what happens when you don't pay attention to what you copy and paste...

Awesome job on the fix! ^_^

This should be the final version, to save everyone the trouble of piecing together all the broken parts.

Thanks again!

Um, just so people know, the current URL on the Digital-Haze site to the letter isn't working. It leads to:

http://digital-haze.net/files/vnds/novels/the_letter/the_letter-1.0.tar.gz

Instead of where it should lead to:

http://digital-haze.net/files/vnds/novels/the_letter/the_letter.tar.gz

I made a mental note to fix that when it was done uploading.

then I went to sleep.
