Poll: Which novel would you like to see ported the most? (112)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-16 19:27 ID:A6K85QyF [Del]

I'm just curios,
so let me know which novel would you like to see ported the most.

My choice is "Phantom of Inferno", because I haven't played it yet and the DVD port must have been an awful mess.

Other than that: ITT propose a novel for me to port :)

(And no, phantom is out...)

2 Name: Nephiel : 2009-05-17 09:12 ID:vUE20EV8 [Del]

Most wanted VN? Katawa Shoujo. I'm dying to play the full version... but it's still a work in progress and only a demo has been released.

Still, the demo is definitely worth checking out. It's the work of amateur developers, and it's free (under creative commons license). IIRC it's written in Ren'py, dunno how hard that would be to port.

3 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 14:39 ID:CcfOKHEv [Del]

+1 for Phantom of Inferno.

4 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 14:49 ID:TdKC11ns [Del]

is there even a way to extract the data from the dvd format or whatever it is?

5 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 15:38 ID:H/SFIWDo [Del]

Yume Miru Kusuri (A drug that makes you dream) would probably get you a few fans. Likewise, Kana Little Sister. Ai Yori Aoshi seems to have fallen off of everyone's radars, but that could be worth porting over as well and it could be interesting to see if Utawarerumono could be done without the battle sequences.

If I could only choose one.....I'd go for Kana, just because I want to share the misery.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 15:53 ID:H/SFIWDo [Del]

Actually, now that I think about it, Moon recently got a complete translation, and considering that it's one of the few Key-related projects that no one is working on, it could be worth a try if you're into that sort of thing.

Have you played MOON.?
Do you think it will port well to VNDS?

8 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 17:01 ID:H/SFIWDo [Del]

>>7
Yeah, I've played it. The artwork is extremely dated, but the premise is interesting enough to make it worth persevering with.(told uniquely from a girl's POV)

As for how it'll port, I'm not sure. It doesn't use Reallive like the other Key games, but there's tools for extracting images and whatnot here: http://asceai.net/moonkit/

9 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 17:24 ID:rwaVHL6a [Del]

>>4
I don't know, but there must be some way to extract the scripts from the DVD version. Also you could take the CGs from the PC version and join them back together.

Hell yeah, maybe there is even a way to get the ero scenes back into the english version, meaning some translation work has to be done...

Sounds like an interesting project... anybody interested?

10 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 18:06 ID:lD6Gf2m0 [Del]

>>8
Hmmm, sorry I didn't mean the technical stuff. I just wanted to know if it will port well towards VNDS. Meaning: if porting it to VNDS would be a (great) loss regarding the gameplay (mechanics) of the original version.

Like porting Chaos;Head to VNDS would have many downsides,
because VNDS will probably never support a 3D engine.

11 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 18:18 ID:H/SFIWDo [Del]

>>10
Ah, okay. Well, apart from losing the two opening movies, there doesn't seem to be anything that'd be lost in porting it over. Even the map sections should port over okay, as the Nocturne Illusion WIP showed that it could be done with no problem.

In fact, from what I can make out from the previous link, the format the .SNX scripts are in is very similar to the .scr one that VNDS uses. If so, it should be fairly straightforward to port over.

12 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 18:24 ID:tNC6UoGx [Del]

Ok, I must admit that I'm interested in doing a MOON. port.

But actually I'm even more interested in doing a (full-fledged) phantom port, since it would be the first port I could ever remember which would put the ero scenes back into an existing translated novel...

This sounds so great, don't ya think?

Just for the record.
The poll is saying:
MOON. 1
Phnatom of Inferno: 2

Am i rite?

14 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 18:59 ID:f0ZCovWm [Del]

Oh, sorry. I forgot KS guy. Which would make it:
Katawa Shoujo: 1

Phantom of Inferno: 2

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I am totally for Kana Imouto, but isn't the official English PC release still widely on sale? Or don't people worry about these things at all?

16 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-17 20:06 ID:H/SFIWDo [Del]

>>15
It's a judgement call really. You could argue there's little difference from porting a commercial English game (or games from defunct publishers like Hirameki) to a Japanese one like Fate/Stay or Umineko. The only group that has had a problem so far with ports to the DS are Insani, yet that hasn't stopped people from working on their titles.

Aready being worked on.

Add my vote to KS

19 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-21 10:01 ID:82XXRQ+Z [Del]

My favorite Hirameki novel was Tea Society of a Witch and I would give a few years of my life for seeing the full game with all character routes and probably even the H-scenes. Hirameki really cut a lot from it and the translation wasn't anywhere near perfect either, so it might be the best idea to rip from the original PC release and do an all-new fan-translation. A perfect release would probably try including the extra character and route from the dreamcast version as well. So all in all this would probably be too big of a work for just the VNDS enthusiasts.

Basically I'd already be content if a fan-translation of the PC release emerged from the depths of the internet sometime in the future. But if that really happened, I guess doing a DS port would be nice, too, so why not just write my dreams down here...

20 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-21 15:38 ID:f0ZCovWm [Del]

>>19
That sounds like a great idea. When do you plan to start with the project?

21 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-21 16:56 ID:zRnn/uVu [Del]

>>19
if you are really willing to

>give a few years of my life

to see this one ported to vnds, I will surely help out.

So how about it?

22 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-21 19:11 ID:929xUsll [Del]

OP here just counting votes. If I didn't miss anything the preliminary results are:
Katawa Shoujo: 2
MOON. 1
Phantom of Inferno: 1
Tea Society of a Witch: 2
Kana: 1
Higurashi no naku koro ni: 1

As you can see, I removed my vote for phantom and shoved it towards another interesting project.

Reason is that I had a look at the Phantom dvd and PC version and after some thinking I thought that this game would both:
-wont merge well and
-wont port well (movie scenes etc.)
to vnds.

The only way to play phantom seems to be the dvd ver, which doesn't look that bad and seems to be superior to everything.

23 Name: Kirbysuperstar : 2009-05-22 00:17 ID:ql+3UhLt [Del]

Might as well remove Higurashi from there as I'm (slowly, actually I haven't worked on it at all since I moved four weeks ago) working on it already.

24 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-22 00:57 ID:1kPw454A [Del]

19 here, so there actually are people other than me who enjoyed Tea Society?? If you want to help me out, first thing would be giving me a link to a shop with international shipping that still has the PC version in stock. I can't believe it's that hard to find, I mean, it's a frontwing game released in 2002...

25 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-22 01:05 ID:SJmrY9aH [Del]

i move my vote of higurashi, since Kirby's working on it, to KS.

Planetarium, but if I recall correctly, there being worked on already?

27 Name: Anonymous : 2009-05-23 16:33 ID:KREcSN8T [Del]

Counting votes again, if I didn't miss anything it looks like this:
Katawa Shoujo: 3
Tea Society of a Witch: 2
MOON. 1
Phantom of Inferno: 1
Planetarian: 1
Kana: 1
Higurashi no naku koro ni: 0

Btw, I never mentioned that this poll excludes games which are (supposedly) being ported right now.
Please feel free to also vote for games which are currently in progress, as long as they aren't fully playable.

Sorry, 19, I had no luck in finding a store till now... It's an old game and I think it wasn't even that popular.

62 Name: Rob : 2009-06-12 10:10 ID:HMIZPwo/ [Del]

@56: There are already official Higurashi VNs for the DS, though I'm not sure of how canon they are related to the original story, they are quite high quality with 90* turn pans and rumble pack support.

63 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-12 10:37 ID:lGUv1cUu [Del]

There follow the canon perfectly, and include chapters that have been up to now exclusive to the PS2, manga, light novels, etc. However, they are not exactly the same as the originals, as they are more interactive than the PC VNs (especially noticeable in the first DS game).

64 Name: Rob : 2009-06-12 12:28 ID:HMIZPwo/ [Del]

Yeah, I tried it out and it seemed very fun and interactive, especially with the rumble pack in my fat DS, but alas, I can't really play what I can't read and enjoy it.

Higurashi or Umineko would be great candidates - I would be extremely interested in reading and hearing the original source.

This is just a passing thought, and having worked on online projects before I realize how hard it is to bring something like what I'm about to suggest to fruition, but possibly a Fate/Zero visual novel using art from the Fate/Zero Artbooks and Light Novels? lol... as if

And then again....I'm creating a "Angel Notes" visual novel using content from only the character material. I'm serious.

67 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-12 18:08 ID:Ae+Zl3of [Del]

Oh yeah >>66,
I'm still looking forward to the release of your novel.

Are you still interested in testing Kagetsu Tohya?
Progress was almost stalled during the last weeks,
because nobody answered my emulator request and on the other hand I got bored an started porting Wanko.

Maybe I should pick it up again and disregard the colored names in this weird sidestory.
I intended to enhance VNDS features but it seems quite hard to do so, at least with no kind of debugging techniques and even with no way to run it in an emulator (and each time flash the card -> remove -> put in -> start up -> select novel -> crash -> goto 1)

I won't update the poll now, because it has somehow gotten hard keeping track of all the votes, but please feel free to mention other games you'd like to see ported in this thread.
Oh, the only 2 restrictions should be 1) games that aren't translated (and without even having a teaser patch, like ataraxia) and 2) games that are already ported (Like tsukihime, >>58)

68 Name: Anonymous : 2009-06-12 19:49 ID:OZGRMDVj [Del]

>>67
Yes, I'm still interested at Kagetsu Tohya. Probably go to the #vnds IRC channel, so we can talk about it more. I may be idle at times, but if I'm active, I'm active. Nickname there is noname345.

About Angel Notes, my artist has created 4 drawings, 2 each for chapters 0 and 1, and working on the rest.

69 Name: Rob : 2009-06-13 09:33 ID:HMIZPwo/ [Del]

@67: On the subject of VNDS features, maybe the ability to utilise the rumble pack. I played only the beginning of Higurashi, and it started out similarly to the first episode of the anime - with bludgeoning. Each time the bludgeon pounded, the rumble would go off.

In Fate/Stay Night, not to mention Tsukihime, there is combat in which this could help add to immersion, but the rumble pack is a poorly designed accessory (humming noise, much?) and it is being abandoned in the latest DS model.

I am by no means trying to be an annoying leecher asking for new features, I have been at the center of a project before and heard the same thing - it's why I quit doing this sort of thing, in fact. I know that I appreciated constructive user feedback, and I feel that this is, though I can't be sure.

If someone wanted to work on a Fate / Zero thing for VNDS, and had access to the most recent Fate / Zero artbook (the tribute one), all of the artwork from the novels, and willingness to do the art stuff, I would probably be willing to drudge away at transferring text from a translation - given I get permission from the translators, of course. I am not confident in doing the top-screen stuff, however.

Kagetsu Tohya I had not even really thought of - I never read it, but I'd love to read it.

I said it`s translation. The VNDS port is still far from finished.

How about Demonbane?

It's by the same people who made Phantom and Saya no Uta. (I would say please somewhere but I'm not sure where to insert it into the post, so just assume that politeness is intended)

I think Demonbane's fan-translation was halted when the collaboration between JAST USA and Nitroplus was announced. They even hired some guys from the fantranslation scene, supposedly. So chances of a complete english translation appearing prior to the official commercial English JAST release are more than slim (i.e. there is none).

Even after the JAST release I doubt someone would start/continue a fantranslation or hack the JAST one. And there haven't been any ports of commercial English releases to VNDS so far either. When one guy here suggested Kana Imouto he got shouted down for it due to the game still being sold in the US or something.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (Kai and Rei included of course), since the first four are being "officially" released sometime the end of this month.
Ah, as mentioned in previous posts, a translation of the Higurashi DS games would be fine too.

Well, personally I'd vote for Sagara Family, since I haven't played that one yet. But I I failed on the first attempt to extract the script.

As for Snow Sakura (btw one of the eroges that everybody should have played: http://zepy.momotato.com/2009/09/01/eroge-that-everybody-should-have-played/ ):

Download and install crass (http://galcrass.blog124.fc2.com/ )
Unzip the archive, in my example to F:\crass\
Open a command line window and navigate to the new crass directory.

Run the command: crage.exe -d "D:\Program Files\G-Collections\Snow Sakura" -o F:\crass\snowsakura
Be careful to replace the first path with your Snow Sakura installation directory and the second path with your crass folder\snowsakura, this is where the resources will be extracted to.

The script files can be found in the IFS folder, open them with Notepad++.

All characters are spaced multiple times. I'd recommend using Notepad++ and do a Regular expression replace. Search for: "([^])[]" and replace it with "\1" (ingore the double quotes when copypasting).

Probably a nigh impossibility, but I'd love to see Katawa-Shoujo get ported.
