This is idiotic. The poll idea itself as well as your post trying to get people's votes.
I think it's about time that fan translators stopped acting like "professionals" (marketing imbeciles and such lice) and return to just translating the games they like most. That'd be the best for us all.
I don't see what's wrong in translating what people want to play. After all, what's the point in translating and releasing if no one will play it anyways? Amaterasu was created in the first place to translate those god rated VNs that was never translated
With that said, Ixrec doesn't just translate what people vote for, he has to like the game too or else he's not doing it. So it's not as if he's just translating what people want.
I don't think there is a problem with asking fans to vote because like Chass said, if nobody plays it, not even professionals would translate it (although it doesn't seem to apply for those amazing Japanese games that never get to English...sometimes that just doesn't make sense).
Plus, Unyu is one of those people that are porting one of those insanely looping and possibly very boring to port over visual novels, so it would be kind of nice to not make it seem like the VNDS community consists of negative people.
>if nobody plays it, not even professionals would translate it
But isn't the point of fantranslations to translate what no professional would translate, i.e. games that are enjoyed only by a minority, i.e. by fans of the genre or series or developer?
I myself am not sure whether I should vote for Muv-Luv or for Baldr Sky. Baldr Sky has ugly mecha design and Muv-Luv has ugly character design. Muv-Luv's combat system seems more visually appealing, but Baldr Force is pretty famous between dreamcast owners for having a well-developed and intriguing one.
Wow, I guess the fact that I can't find any action footage from Muv-Luv on Youtube (in contrast to combo(!) videos for Baldr Sky) means that combat has to suck real bad.
So I'm going to vote for Baldr Sky.

"We are convinced the results of the poll do not accurately represent the will of the VN community, therefore we will decide between the top candidates ourselves after I've played them."
So now it's even a representative democracy.
lol, blame gg for having their fansub watchers troll vote Rui despite never playing VNs themselves. It was blatantly obvious that the voting system got hijacked, so Ircex made a good choice.
As for the whole professional, non professional things, I've already said, Amaterasu was created in order to TL god rated VNs that were never localized. It seems like localization companies don't like to localize those epic games that people actually want to play and go for those generic dating sims instead, i guess in order to appeal to the entire demographics. But let's face it, the only ones who will play are the ones who play VNs in the first place.
A shame though, as the poll did wonders for the past projects, i guess this is a price of fame
BTW, this is the internet, what democracy?
>BTW, this is the internet, what democracy?
What planet do you come from? Internet is democracy. Can you even name anything more democratic than the internet?
If it was really democratic wouldn't we get a say once in a while who has control over the tubes, the electricity and the devices through which we access the internets?
From what I've seen of Muv-Luv it has some nice mech designs, I don't know about characters. I've no opinion on Baldr Sky though.
It does seem kind of redundant to make a poll asking what your group should do next and then disregard the results because you don't think that the results of people voting properly reflects what they wanted. That, is typical democracy though. Who cares how it's supposed to work if it at least looks like you bothered to care. ;p
seconded, the interenet is a dictatorship, where everyone has total power, and the ignorence and power lust that comes with it
Internet is democracy? I think not. Admins of each site controls the web, they can ban you whenever they like, for whatever reason, cough minori. You go to forum boards, you have to follow all their rules, yet the admins could make any changes to the site as they like, regardless what you say. On the real side, your ISP is constantly monitoring and has a history of all u do while surfing the web.
Democracy? I think not.
>>9 here. All of you ignored my question. Regardless of whether the internet does or does not meet all of your fancy requirements, do you actually know something that does?
If not, maybe your definition of democracy is just a mere fantasy.
regardless or not whether democracy has ever existed anywhere, the definition of democracy doesn't change. Just because it's not currently implemented anywhere doesn't mean the idea of democracy doesn't exist, or is shoved and fit into the internet just because the internet might be the closest to to that idea.
xD All this talk of democracy seems to be pulling away from the original point of the entire thread.
a thread off topic? on MY internet? not bloody likely...wait..
I would apply my INTERNET DICTATORSHIP and lock this thread if I knew how to.
and no amount of voting would ever make it unlocked.
Too bad this isn't a democracy, so however many of you want to lock this thread, you can't XD Only one person can, and he can do it on his own whim...ah democracy...
