Well, I decided to look some stuff up on the guy spamming the wiki. Apparently, its supposedly some script some jerk off made that is spamming tons of random sites.

I'm guessing that its the same person that is spamming the messageboard, but I'm not sure (haven't checked). There is a record of the same thing posting NSFW pictures on a different website as well.

In the same thread provided (simplemachines.org), there is a proposed solution, project honeypot (http://www.projecthoneypot.org/index.php) along with various other regular anti-spam techniques (captcha, etc.). Perhaps someone can take a look into the project honeypot thing?

All you have to do is see them on your account and ban them.
Seems pretty useful if they dont use a proxy

Well, those are all good and all, but if we even at least had somebody who checked the forums often enough who had the power to delete them, that would help a lot. It seems like those with power don't check these very often....

I wasn't checking the board for quite some time, when I dropped by just now, I was kinda shocked by all the spam. Why would anyone bother spamming this board anyway? Not like he's gunna piss of alot of people here.

Considering you're getting spammed with picks of naked women, without links to a site or any sort of message acompanying them I'd fare a guess that you have a human spammer.

Also, did you consider setting your message board to require registration before posting?

24/7 coverage wouldn't be much of a fantasy. Hell, I usually look on here once per day, just because it's in my list of "check every day" in my bookmarks (along with lots of manga, anime subbers, and news sites). I don't post anything most of the time, but I at least open the page.

xD I do the same (usually), but unfortunately we nubs don't have the almighty powers of the messageboard, so just being here isn't really the most helpful thing.

Yeah.... too bad. Plus that doesn't fix the problem really does it? Some way to stop spam while still making it as easy to post for anonymous people as it is right now? I'd say that's nearly impossible.... I really like the way it's set up now too.

Unfortunately, it's probably nothing more than a bot/script somebody set up.

I now have a new-found hate for spammers. Reverted the changes to the front page/discussion sections.

xD I've been trying to keep the wiki nice and clean since forever, but it seems to spam fairly frequently (every 10-30 minutes with downtime every so often o.0).

You did need to make an account to make the changes xD. If you just scroll down, usually I still have an edit where I blanked the page. Just edit the blank page and save it xD.

If at least he posted images of two-dimensional women, but this is disgusting. I agree that he is probably a single person laughing his ass off reading our posts. A spambot would probably flood with a much higher intensity. Isn't there a list of open proxies and stuff that can be perma-banned by default?

I actually agree with that statement o.0. If it were 2D women, we would all be way used to it (what are eroges for? lol). The only problems I find with it being a person means that
1) The guy must have the shittiest life since he has the time to post this stuff on a random site, where apart from this post, no one seems to actually pay attention.
2) Why post explicit material on a forum that occasionally ports explicit material anyways, woot for being a dumbass rebel...

Ok, how about a captcha or some other thing if you try to use an image? It wouldn't inconvenience most people as images are hardly ever used, and would probably stop at least the image spam in the board.

The wiki was spammed the hell out of. Tons of crap all over the place. There were tons of spam on a lot of the user ip talks. Either someone got pissed, or we might have another problem spammer.

It took me the better part of 15 minutes to make sure I got everything, and even now I'm not totally sure I missed a mark -_-". Supposedly the creator of the wiki is Toastermage (or something like that)...Maybe we should try to contact him. If worse comes to worst, maybe we can create a new wiki and ask for the digital-haze.net to redirect the wiki link to a new wiki.

xD I was on the irc chat for the better part of an hour (I revived it for a bit o.0). Apparently, Toastermage aka Jake aka original developer of VNDS, doesn't feel the urge to mess with this stuff because he doesn't use VNDS very much (more like not at all?).

I attempted to bully the bulletin board password from him...but I failed xD...Amazingly enough, the one who has been moderating and is the diseased carrier of the bulletin board password is Boinciel (diseased carrier because he can't give it out, though he can use it...somehow that analogy doesn't work xD).

It also seems that we will be having no defense for a couple days (Boinciel has a winter camping trip...)

then what you should do: Log in everyday and pester jake' for the password all the time. He's bound to give up at some point...
