So I'm trying to get Kira Kira in working order before I storm through all the script files, but whenever I use the setimg command, I get the error "[graphics] libpng_err: Too many IDAT's found"
The sprite loads just fine, but it will still put the error in the text, which... doesn't really look nice.
Any help?
Disregard that. I'm an idiot. It only happens on a few different lines, and it's probably my fault from messing up the variables. I'll see if I can fix it.
hurrr
stop making too many IDATs
If I remember correctly, you can change the .ini to not show those warning, although I don't exactly remember the different values you could have in the .ini... I always thought that I got that error because I was using too many pictures at once (background, setimg 4-5 times, rinse&repeat) so I just ignored it since it wasn't freezing the DS xD.
The amount of time I've wasted on these sprites makes me dizzy.
Whoever can reduce the size of these pictures by 32%, keep them transparent pngs, and (somehow) keep them from erroring has my eternal gratitude.
G'day,
Here you go:
http://www.mediafire.com/?3mymzyy2zzm
The program said it was 32%, but I have my doubts...
btw I usually use irfanview, but for this I used FastStone Photo resiser:
http://www.faststone.org/FSResizerDetail.htm
Don't know if these produce any errors on the DS though, haven't checked em.
I've used Irfanview (which totally screwed over my transparency), AND FastStone which was giving me the IDAT errors most of the time.
I requested on another forum for someone to help, and they resized them for me as well, so I'll be trying those first, then I'll try yours.
Thanks a bunch for helping, even if I don't end up using your pictures.
Ugh.
Got a different error from the images I used from the other forum.
"[graphics] libpng_err: IDAT: CRC error"
Might try your now, Hogan, but I may end up getting the same error over again.
Is it a problem with the image's colourdepth, perhaps?
Yeah, your images give me the same IDAT errors I was getting before.
Thanks anyway.
I don't know, really. I'm not a huge expert on this whole ordeal.
That's why I'm coming to you guys for help :<
Maybe the converter in the vnds tools might be able to work? I don't think very many people actually use the converter, so maybe that might work...
Whenever I use it, it either does nothing or squashes the pngs so they're really short and fat and then leaves them that way.
If it actually worked for me I would use it. Idunno. Maybe I'm doing something stupid.
Yeah... I've been messing around with these images to no avail. If anybody could tell me what to change the stuff in the config file to, that would be awesome.
If not, well, I might just drop the project. Need to get these problems out of the way. Such a hassle.
I'm not sure about if it fixes everything, but I just used the VNDS image converter tool. The first time I used it, I set output to PNG, scaling to sprite, and left scaling mode at 800x600. When I put that image in-game, it gave the IDAT error.
However, next I ran the converter on the already converted images to test the other output types. Output type PNG 256 (neuquant), Sprite, 256x192 (to keep it the same size) gave me an image that didn't throw the error, was scaled correctly, and still had perfect transparency.
Bleh. Still getting errors on some of them. Thanks though.
Did it fix most of the problems? Could you list the ones that still aren't working, or are there too many?
I get the IDAT errors on seemingly random sprites, and I'm not sure which ones they are seeing as I haven't used all of them because I haven't finished doing the scripts.
Still have problems?
They're still messed up, and I haven't been able to fix them so I haven't progressed at all.
Do you think you could upload the alpha that you are having problems with? Maybe if somebody else works around with it, it'll magically fix itself?
Oooooh!! Kira Kira is my fav Vn being it my first! I hope I get to see it ported soon.
I'm not sure if this will fix it, but you could try sending them all through optipng (easy to google) after using the vndstools. I tested it with my planetarian images that were also giving me the same errors and they seem to have gone away...
I'll try that. This thing loves to give me headaches.
So is there any word on if that worked or not (have you had the time to try it)?
I know that the images I tested it on seem to be fine (I haven't run into that error ever since I tried it). Now the only error I've noticed from my images would be that CRC one (I haven't looked up what it is or anything yet).
Frankly, I haven't touched the files because I want to make sure that when I dive into them I'm ready to set aside ALL of my freetime to work work work.
I've been busy watching Great Teacher Onizuka. Blame that. lul
I'll get to it eventually. Quite soon, probably.
Since I've been doing it anyway, how exactly did you get the script files to extract from Kira Kira? I got everything else, but the scripts are messed up and I don't know how to fix them.
[Update]
alright got the sound fx and bgm mostly converted (7 files were like 0.01 seconds so won't convert(error: duration of audiofile is too long O_O)
[what i have]

all script files (207 in total (wtf)
[what i don't have]
voices (are in an encoded .pak file)
[unless vnds supports]
OP movie
ED movies
how the script looks:
#set G1,1

Shikanosuke Maejima's lover called unexpectedly last night to break up with him. He spent the night lying awake, and in the morning, he received an e-mail from her.
*
"I will come over to return what I borrowed from you."
*
Maybe this is the last time he'll ever see her. So, Maejima-san, who just can't give up on her, decides to come up with a plan to somehow, to turn the situation around.
*
As the appointed time draws near, he waits quietly by himself while getting everything ready, trying to predict the outcome.
*
#ClearMessage
Then it begins.
*
#ClearMessage
#DrawScene kira_897, 2000
Maejima-san is wandering around in the living room restlessly. He has dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep.
*
Today is a weekday, but it's winter break. The rest of his family is all out, so he's all alone at home.
*
It's almost the end of the year, and perhaps their relationship is coming to an end as well.
*
However, that's not what Maejima-san wants.
*
looks a very basic script format to me
hope this helps on making this for the nds

I can record the voices if needed (I need to get the game though)...as for the video...a slideshow would sort of work, but full on video is not going to happen.

The script doesn't look too terrible, but I'd really like to look at the full thing. Do you think you could zip them up so I could trawl through them? I could probably come up with a program to quickly port most of it minus a little manual work.
As far as everything else, it looks like it's all pretty easy to work with, unlike Wanko.
And yeah, I've been trying to get some kind of movie-like thing working, but a slideshow is as good as it'll get.
i got the voice files they are in the really old .669 format
converting to wav gives scrambled sounds..so need to find a way to do that
--669 format is a 8bit sound format--
will zip everything up now
hmm..i opened up the 669 file
and it seems the big one contains all the voices
ok here are the files ( i left the voice files out)
My script looked like total ass when I got it so you're better off than I am. I think I got three or so scenes in before I got fed up with ERRORRRRR EVERWHERE.
Good luck to ya.
